Irish Coffee
Did you ever wonder who it was first thought of adding a wee dram into a cup of coffee. Read on...
Irish Coffee - Chef Ryan's Finest Hour
1943: Shannon International Airport.
On the south west coast of Ireland, Shannon was at this time Europe's gateway to America. During a very bad snowstorm, the passengers are stranded and it is impossible to get the provisions to the airport.
So "necessity being the Mother of invention" Chef Ryan invents his now world famous drink, with the only remaining ingredients he has:
- a generous measure of Jameson Irish Whiskey (4cl)
- a teaspoon of brown sugar
- a cup of piping hot Coffee
- topped with cold whipped cream.
The idea being to sip the hot coffee and whiskey through the cold fresh cream.
Guaranteed to warm the cockles of any heart.
